When We Give God All
As the father of a 10 year old boy, I am sometimes startled at the amount he can eat, and yet it would never be enough to feed 5,000 people. It is insufficient. In Mark 6 we read the account of Jesus feeding just such a multitude with a small boys lunch. If I would have been the boy I may have selfishly told the disciples “No, you can’t have it. It’s not enough for everyone, and I’ll not have enough for myself. I’ll keep it.” Yet the boy had enough childlike faith that he gave all that he had. Still today that’s all that Jesus is asking from us. We must have enough childlike faith in him that we give all we have to Him. He’s not interested in how much it is, it’s not enough anyways. He doesn’t care about our talents and abilities, they all fall short of meeting the need. He doesn’t care about our excess or lack of possession, they are not enough. Our age or mental abilities make no difference to Him. All He wants is all that we have to give. Like the little boy giving his meager lunch, when we place it in His hands, and He blesses it, suddenly what we thought was insufficient becomes more than enough to meet the need.
