Paying it Forward

The other day I was in line at McDonald’s getting a cup of coffee for my wife and I. The bill was only $2.00, and I didn’t have any cash on me at the time. I drove to the next window to pay. The lady working the cash register handed me back my receipt and my debit card. I didn’t look at my receipt like I should have but, if I did, I would have noticed that I was being charged for the coffee and the person’s breakfast behind me. At the next window management had caught their error and asked for my card back so they could fix the problem. I told them not to worry about it and that I’d be glad to pay for their breakfast. Management was baffled at my generosity and with huge smiles said thanks. My wife was also happy that we showed kindness in the early hours of the day. We were heading to Atlanta, GA for a little weekend getaway. On Valentines Day weekend you can only imagine how busy all of the restaurants were. We finally found a place that could take care of us and we sat down. We had a great meal and wonderful time together. Our waiter surprised us with the news that someone paid $25 toward our bill. We were grateful that a complete stranger would do that for us. I reminded my wife of our McDonald's visit.
The moral of this story is simple, what is God waiting to give us if we would release what is already in our hands? I believe that God is the creator of all things and that everything belongs to him. We are stewards and dressers of what he has created and what belongs to him. Many people never truly understand the gift of giving and they're left to live a less than fulfilled life. Don't let fear and selfishness rob you of giving. God tells us in his word what he promises if we bless others, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again" Luke 6:38
